Fr. Paul Melgarejo
Fr. Paul Melgarejo was ordained to the priesthood on May 15, 2021. Formerly the parochial vicar for St. Matthew Parish in San Antonio Texas, he is the present pastor of St. Philip Benizi Parish in Poteet, Texas.
Born in Laredo, Texas, Father Paul spent his youth in Jalapa, Veracruz, Mexico, and moved to San Antonio in the early 1990’s. After graduating from Fox Tech High School, he attended Palo Alto College and then UTSA. After university, he taught Spanish and bilingual education for over 8 years.
After a year of participation in daily Mass and Holy Hour, he heard God's call to the priesthood and decided to enter Assumption Seminary.
He is the eldest of four, having two brothers and one sister. Father Paul enjoys running, sports including baseball, soccer, and basketball. His favorite saint quote is by St. Pope John XXIII: "Lord, make me a servant of your servant."
