Holy Land Pilgrimage
August 19 – 29, 2026
A pilgrimage is a journey of faith; an ancient practice in the Church. It is an eternal investment which has an everlasting reward.

You will have the privilege to prayerfully retrace the footprints of Jesus, and meet the local people, the living stones, the Custodians of the Holy Land – the Franciscans & other religious communities. Pilgrimage Chaplain
Fr. Dennis Zerr - Pastor of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish in Alice, Texas - has been a friend of Pilgrim Center of Hope for many years. Fr. Zerr has joined us on three pilgrimages to the Holy Land; the first two helped him discern his vocation to the priesthood. The third, he joined us after his priestly ordination!
He shares the following with you about himself:
I am a native Texan, born in Hondo up by San Antonio. I have two sisters and a brother. I was the firstborn son and as soon as I could walk, dad claimed me for his own and we spent every available moment in the woods, hunting and fishing. My uncle had a ranch so I got roped into various cowboy activities (no pun intended) like working cows and hauling hay. As I grew up, I had different summer jobs - worked for a carpenter, labored in the cabbage fields, laid asphalt on the highways… I went to Hondo High School (Go Owls!) where my most notable achievement was being voted “Most Quietest Boy.” After graduation, I went to Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos and got a degree in Computer Science. I worked in the “real” world for 18 years eventually becoming a Senior Systems Development Programmer. I was your basic computer geek. I loved it, was good at it, and was making a pile of money. And on weekends and vacation I would still head back to Hondo for hunting and fishing. I was having a great time and my plan was to get married, have 2.5 children, a house and a dog.
But God had a different plan and it’s ALWAYS best to go with God’s plan. So after a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with Deacon Tom and Mary Jane Fox, I was off to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia for six years. I was ordained a priest at the ripe old age of 47. I spent seven years as an assistant at St. Patrick’s in Corpus Christi, five years as pastor of Holy Family in Taft, seven years as pastor of Sacred Heart in Falfurrias, and I have been pastor of St. Elizabeth of Hungary in Alice for three years. Every parish I’ve been in, I have found wonderful people and it’s been a pleasure to serve them.
I've been to the Holy Land four times now - three times with Deacon Tom and Mary Jane. Every pilgrimage has been a wonderful spiritual experience and I'm looking forward to the next one with great and gleeful anticipation.
