Pilgrimage Chaplain

Very Rev. Steven A. Gamez, V.F., is a native of San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from John Jay High School, he soon joined the United States Navy. He served aboard the U.S.S. Pioneer MCM-9 Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship, and after the Navy used his military benefits (G.I. Bill) to attend Santa Fe Community College and eventually completed an Associates of Applied Science.
Concerning his vocation to the priesthood, he first approached his parish priest at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church, on the westside of San Antonio, who counseled him and put him in contact with the vocation director for the Archdiocese of San Antonio. Father Steven began his seminary training at Holy Trinity Seminary in Dallas, and graduated from the University of Dallas in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Letters. Returning to San Antonio, he graduated with a Masters of Divinity degree from Oblate School of Theology, and was ordained a priest May 17, 2008 at San Fernando Cathedral by the Most Reverend Jose Gomez.
His pastoral work has included time serving the parishes of St. Philip of Jesus, St. Henry, St. Benedict, St. Rose of Lima, and he is currently the pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul parish in New Braunfels, Texas. Father Gamez is the local vicar forane (V.F.) also known as a dean, appointed to oversee the priests of his particular area, called a vicariate or deanery.
Father Steven looks forward to offering spiritual meditations and presiding at daily Mass during the pilgrimage, as well as offering the Sacrament of Reconciliation for pilgrims who wish to receive it.
