Pilgrim Center of Hope prayerfully mourns our former Chaplain and Spiritual Director, Fr. Patrick A. Martin, who passed away March 30, 2026, the Monday of Holy Week.
Father Pat worked with the "broken" of this world for more than five decades. His work grew out of his own "handicap,” legal blindness beginning at the age of nine -- and it is how his parish mission work began; simply as work with "the handicapped." Beginning in 1980, he preached missions at over 1,300 parishes worldwide on "God’s Love in Our Broken Lives." He published a number of books, all written in hopes of helping people to live with their own “brokenness.”
After a sciatica attack in 2012, his local bishop and San Antonio's Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, MSpS, agreed to allow Father Pat to live with one of his sisters (also Pat) and her husband Deacon Jerry, here in San Antonio. The couple's closeness to Pilgrim Center of Hope resulted in the joyous event of meeting and growing to love Fr. Pat.
Fr. Pat became the Chaplain and Spiritual Director for Pilgrim Center of Hope; and while he was physically able, he celebrated Mass once a month in our Gethsemane Chapel, served as a Confessor and speaker at special events, a Holy Land pilgrimage chaplain, and was actively involved in giving spiritual guidance toward the ministry’s mission.
Prior to his move to Padua Place, Fr. Pat's last ministries ranged from acting as a spiritual advisor to fellow Villa de San Antonio residents, and local parish ministry, including as Spiritual Director for the St. Padre Pio Prayer Group of San Antonio.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let your perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
