Bishop Gary Janak

Bishop Gary Janak will be our Mass celebrant & homilist for morning Mass.

Bishop Janak was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Victoria on May 14, 1988. He earned a Licentiate in Canonical Jurisprudence (JCL) from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., in 1995 and a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Victoria-Houston in 1997.

Bishop Gary has experience as a licensed professional counselor supervisor in the State of Texas. In his home Diocese of Victoria, Texas, he established a Catholic center for mental health counseling. In the Archdiocese of San Antonio, he has strongly supported Mental Health Ministry.

He is also passionate about supporting married couples, and promoting vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life. He serves as the Rector of Assumption Seminary, where he is committed to forming holy, balanced, competent, and Christ-centered men for the priesthood.

His community involvement has encompassed a myriad of organizations, including as a member of the Board of Hospice of South Texas; state spiritual director for the Czech Catholic Union of Texas (KJT); chaplain for Knights of Columbus councils in Victoria, Yoakum, and El Campo; and member of the Board of Trustees for St. Joseph Catholic High School in Victoria, and chaplain for the Victoria Police Department.

In addition to his parish and chancery ministries, Bishop Janak has served on several mission trips to Nicaragua, as well as traveling to Guatemala with the Faith in Practice medical mission team.

Please join us in praying for Bishop Gary as he ministers to the people of God, and as he prepares to lead us in worship at the CMC.
