Three Steps to A More Thankful Attitude

Is the build up to Thanksgiving and Christmas stressing you out? Do you find it difficult to maintain a spirit of gratitude during the holidays and throughout the year?

This episode of Living Catholicism will focus on three simple ways to remind you of the many blessings, gifts, and good things you have received or experienced during the past year and throughout your lifetime. There is joy, spiritual enrichment, and health benefits that come from showing gratitude and saying “thank you” to God and those around you.

We will also discuss how to remember that “God was there,” even in the ‘not so good moments’ that we experience in life.

Lourdes, France – Site of Marian Apparitions

Deacon Tom and Mary Jane Fox invite you to travel to Lourdes, in Western France. Visit the site where Mary, the Mother of God, revealed herself as the Immaculate Conception to St. Bernadette.

Meet the young visionary, Bernadette Soubirous and be transported to her home, to the Grotto where the Virgin Mary appeared to her, and to the healing baths that the Lady revealed to Bernadette.

Prayer to Our Lady of Lourdes
Oh ever immaculate Virgin, Mother of Mercy, Health of the Sick, Refuge of Sinners, Comfortess of the Afflicted, you know my wants, my troubles, my sufferings. Look upon me with mercy. When you appeared in the grotto of Lourdes, you made it a privileged sanctuary where you dispense your favors, and where many sufferers have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal. I come, therefore, with unbounded confidence to implore your maternal intercession. My loving Mother, obtain my request. I will try to imitate your virtues so that I may one day share your company and bless you in eternity.    Amen.

Jewel for the Journey

Her motherhood, which began in Nazareth and was lived most intensely in Jerusalem at the foot of the Cross, will be felt during this year as a loving and urgent invitation addressed to all the children of God, so that they will return to the house of the Father when they hear her maternal voice: Do whatever He tells you. – Pope St. John Paul II

Why the Crucifix?

Why the Crucifix?

Why do Catholics use, wear, and display crucifixes if Jesus has resurrected from the dead? Listen in as Deacon Tom and Mary Jane Fox discuss this popular question.

Catholicism Live! was a weekly series connecting issues of the faith and Church teachings to daily life produced by Pilgrim Center of Hope from 2000-2019.

Spa for A Woman’s Soul

Hear from dynamic speakers who share their messages of hope.

The following served as a preview of  the 2018 annual Catholic Women’s Conference (CWC). Nan Balfour, events coordinator at Pilgrim Center of Hope (PCH) spoke with two of the featured speakers at this year’s conference:

  • Award-winning Catholic author Colleen C. Mitchell, whose speaking topics were When We Were Eve, Uncovering the Woman God Created You to Be and Who Does he Say You Are? Women Transformed by Christ in the Gospels, the titles of her two books. Colleen will speak about how she strives to provide guidance to women who are searching for answers and seeking to find their identity in Christ.
  • Convert and surfer priest Fr. Donald Calloway, MIC – bestselling author of Champions of the Rosary: The History and Heroes of a Spiritual Weapon, whose life was changed forever after reading about Our Lady of Medjugorje. He spoke on Mary and the Mystery of Femininity and The Rosary: Spiritual Sword of Mary. Fr. Calloway says women have much to learn from the Virgin Mary. Father’s talk helped women to better understand their femininity with a focus on family-life, the workplace, and all other relationships.

This program will also touch on how CWC as a ‘Spa for the Soul,’ strives to provide women with the spiritual tools that teach, encourage, and challenge women to be exactly who God created them to be.

Securing Our Future

Why are so many young Catholics leaving the Faith? Who are the injured, the drifters, and the dissenters?

Join Fr. Ed Hauf, OMI for a thought-provoking discussion on how to best minister to our youth and young adults in today’s society. This topic is of upmost importance  for the Church, both locally and around the world, namely the vital task we all have of helping to secure the future of the Church by making sure we are ministering to and meeting the needs of the next generation.

Special guest will be Daniel Oubre, the Associate Director of the Office for Parish Life in the Archdiocese of San Antonio.

Church leaders have recognized the importance of listening to and meeting the needs of young adults as they grow up in this totally secular culture. Pope Francis has called upon the leaders of those immersed in youth ministry to initiate a true and honest dialogue to bring Christ into the lives of our youth.

Fr. Ed and Mr. Oubre will share some recent data from the Pew Research Center that shows that the number of young Americans who are no longer religiously affiliated has increased dramatically in recent years. Seventy-four-percent of the sample population of this study said they left the faith between the ages of 10 and 20. It seems from the study that this disaffiliation from the Church is largely a thoughtful, conscious, intentional choice made by young people in a secularized society where faith and religious practice are seen as one option among many.
