What personal data we collect and why we collect it

If using the website purely for information purposes, i.e. if you have not registered with us, do not order or donate anything or are not forwarding information to us by another means, we shall only collect the personal data which your browser transmits to our server. If you wish to view our website, we collect the following data which is technically necessary for us to display our website to you and to guarantee stability and security:

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using its service. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, if you are a Gravatar user; your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Forms

When visitors use a contact, donation, or other form on the site, we collect the data shown in the form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. Upon submission, a contact form is emailed directly to Pilgrim Center of Hope.

Donation form information is stored on our website’s secured database, is accessible to our staff, and may be stored in our other Pilgrim Center of Hope administrative or financial databases; with the exception of credit card information. No credit card numbers, or security codes are to be stored electronically by our staff. No credit card information is to be kept on-hand after it has been processed, except recurring charges which are kept in a secure place. All credit card information that is physically written or typed must be shredded before it is disposed of.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site or use a contact form, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Newsletter

With your consent, you can subscribe to one of our email newsletters, which inform you about upcoming activities and offers related to the newsletter you sign up for (Pilgrim Center of Hope or “Who Is the Man of the Shroud?” or Catholic Women’s Conference or Catholic Men’s Conference).

We use the so-called double-opt-in-process for newsletters. This means that after your initial opt-in using a form on our website, we will send you an e-mail to the given e-mail address, in which we ask you for confirmation that you wish the newsletter to be sent.

You can revoke your consent to the transmission of the newsletter at any time and unsubscribe from the newsletter. You can declare the cancellation by clicking on the link provided in each newsletter e-mail or by sending a message to the contact details stated in the legal notice.

We use the external service provider MailChimp as a processor for the transmission of our newsletters. We have concluded a separate data processing agreement with the service provider to ensure the protection of your personal data. Google Tag Manager

This website uses Google Tag Manager. Through this service so-called website tags can be managed centrally via a user interface. Google Tag Manager only implements tags. No cookies are used and no personal information is collected.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

If you submit a contact form, the information you submitted through the form is retained indefinitely. This is so that our staff can keep a record of how we served you.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
