Holy Land Pilgrimage

A pilgrimage is a journey of faith; an ancient practice in the Church. It is an eternal investment which has an everlasting reward.

Come and see, touch and experience the sites of the Bible, the sites of our Lord’s life and our Lady’s life. You will have the privilege to prayerfully retrace the footprints of Jesus, and meet the local people, the living stones, the Custodians of the Holy Land – the Franciscans & other religious communities. You will be introduced to the various cultures of the Holy Land and the history of our Church.

Spiritual Director

Father Steven Gamez is pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church in San Antonio.He has previously served as parochial vicar of San Fernando Cathedral and pastor of St. Philip of Jesus & St. Henry. As a seminarian, he was featured in the PBS Independent Lens documentary, The Calling, about his formation for the priesthood.

Father Steven is excited to join us in this Ministry of Pilgrimages! He will offer reflections, Mass, and Sacrament of Reconciliation to pilgrims who desire to receive it.

As you discern whether to join us, consider: Our Group Leaders and Local Guide handle all logistical details, so our Spiritual Director can focus on offering the powerful, healing ministry of Jesus to you, the pilgrim.

Father Steven Anthony Gamez was born at the Nix Hospital in downtown San Antonio. His father Jose Salazar Gamez was born in Kyle, Texas and his mother Cruz Gloria Cevallos Gamez was born and raised in San Antonio. He is the third of four children, including his eldest sister Monica, older brother Jose and younger sister Erika. He graduated from John Jay High School in San Antonio in 1990 and soon after graduation joined the United States Navy. He served aboard the U.S.S. Pioneer MCM-9 Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship, and after the Navy used his military benefits (G.I. Bill) to attend Santa Fe Community College and eventually completed an Associates of Applied Science in semi-conductor manufacturing in 1997.

Concerning his vocation to the priesthood, he first approached his parish priest at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church who counseled him and put him in contact with the vocation director for the Archdiocese of San Antonio in 1998. Father Steven eventually began his official seminary training in August of 2000 at Holy Trinity Seminary in Dallas, Texas, and graduated from the University of Dallas in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Letters. He then moved back to San Antonio to begin his master’s degree studies at Assumption Seminary and Oblate School of Theology and graduated with a Masters of Divinity in May 2008. He was ordained a priest May 17, 2008 at San Fernando Cathedral by the Most Reverend Jose Gomez and named Pastor of St. Philip of Jesus Church in 2011, administrator of St. Henry Church in 2014, and administrator of St. Benedict Church in 2016. Leaving the three parishes, on July 1, 2016 he became pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church
