SAN ANTONIO – More than 900 men attended Pilgrim Center of Hope’s twelfth annual Catholic Men’s Conference, “Master, I Want to See,” on March 18, 2017 at St. Mary’s University. Beginning with a preparatory Night with the Lord event on March 17 in Bill Greehey Arena, and continuing through Saturday afternoon, volunteers tallied 412 attendees as having participated in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Attendees came from across Texas, with a handful traveling in from outside the state. Many registered together as groups, with the largest group of 92 men representing Sacred Heart parish in Uvalde, Texas, a faith community comprised of 600 families. Attendance was also high among area Knights of Columbus, with 294 Knights in attendance, 40 of whom participated in their full Color Corps Regalia. These served at the Opening Ceremony, Sacrament of Reconciliation, Eucharistic Adoration, and during Mass with Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, MSpS.
Knights were particularly interested in this year’s event due to the presence of their Supreme Knight, Carl A. Anderson, who gave the final presentation, and afterward, personally addressed several questions from event attendees about the role of men and the Church in society today. Anderson was also present outside the arena for the official blessing of a sonogram van by Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller. Funds for the van were raised by local Knights for use by A Woman’s Haven pregnancy center.
Other speakers who inspired, encouraged, and challenged participants were Fr. Leo Patalinghug, Fr. Clay Hunt, and Robert Rogers. Participants enjoyed music by local ministry Faith Rendered, as well as opportunities to connect with Catholic vendors and ministry exhibitors.
Pilgrim Center of Hope founded this annual conference in 2004, following the success of its women’s conference. The mission of its men’s conference is to promote a deeper understanding of man’s dignity as being created in the image and likeness of God, and to provide direction and resources to help men transform themselves, their families and society.
Pending confirmation, men can pencil in March 17, 2018 for the next men’s conference. Registration is expected to open by Winter 2017. Sign up for email updates and learn about how Pilgrim Center of Hope guides people to personally encounter Christ at pilgrimcenterofhope.org.
