Jesus, Show Me Who I Am

I think all of us know who we are; we have a name, and a family, we know where we were born, and we have dreams, emotions, feelings, and responsibilities. However, there is so much more about us!

We are a creation of God!

God who created the universe, and the world, who created Adam and Eve, co-created you with your mother and father.

He knew you from the second you were formed in your mother’s womb! This thought in itself is pretty incredible! Because that also means He has known you from the very beginning!

What does this say about me? When God created you, He did so in His image. In Sacred Scripture, the term “soul” often refers to human life or the entire human person.

But “soul” also refers to the innermost aspect of a person, that which is of greatest value in him, that by which he is most especially in God’s image.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen explains it well:

“There is one thing in the world that is definitely and absolutely your own, and that is your will. Health, power, life and honor can all be snatched from you, but your will is irrevocably your own.”

Jesus, show me who I am! It is an act of will on our part  – to choose to know Jesus, to choose to learn about Him.

It takes that first step. Paul says it well in 1 Thessalonians (5:23) when he writes about the body and the soul:

“May the God of peace himself make you perfectly holy and may you entirely, spirit, soul, and body, be preserved blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Paul’s words also remind us that we are on a journey; our end is eternal life. God who is peace and who knows us will lead us.

It is our choice to allow God to enter into our lives. It is our choice to invite the Lord into our daily activities.
