I went on pilgrimage in 2008 and in 2014, both times with children: 9 months and 4 years old. Yes, a 9 month old boy. I still need to bring two more of my children. I also went with a friend who took a daughter 25 years old.
I would highly recommend taking your children to see that God is for-real. The return on your investment towards your children’s eternal future justifies the expense. This experience will prepare them for navigating this sometimes harsh and unforgiving world. We ate every meal together, and to went to Mass every day at a different church. The 25 year old had limited wifi, plus the time difference kept her off the phone, so the quality time was priceless. The 4 year old wants to be an altar server, and says the most beautiful, heartfelt prayers.
The graces the children will receive by celebrating Mass and physically being at these holy sites cannot be seen or remembered by humans. The Father, Son, Holy Spirit, Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, and all the Angels & Saints will see it.
People max themselves out on things that break or wear-out with nothing to show for it, or they are saving for something. Use your savings, beg, borrow, but trust me just GO!
